CADGUYS began around 2018, initially providing technical drawing services for residential architectural projects. As our workload increased, the business evolved into a flexible network of technicians and collaborators working remotely on various projects.

In the early years, much of our work centered on building direct relationships with homeowners, preparing planning drawings, and assisting with residential design projects. Simultaneously, CADGUYS started forming partnerships with architectural designers and practices needing additional technical drawing support during busy periods.

This naturally led to the development of a dual business model over time.

Today, CADGUYS collaborates directly with private clients as well as with architectural designers, contractors, and developers who require expert technical drawing services. This approach sets us apart from traditional architectural practices, where work typically focuses on local projects.

Since many projects we assist with have already navigated the planning stage, most site and contextual information is established. This enables CADGUYS to concentrate on what we excel at — advancing the technical design of projects and producing detailed construction drawings.

Working in this manner allows us to support professionals across the UK by providing technical drawing services remotely while maintaining close collaboration with the practices or contractors managing the project and client relations.

Who Are CADGUYS? CADGUYS was founded by Sonny Medcalf, whose background began in architectural training following the traditional RIBA pathway. Through working on a range of residential architectural projects and technical drawing services, Sonny gradually built relationships with experienced CAD technicians and specialists, each contributing their unique expertise. Today, CADGUYS operates as a collaborative network of technical specialists dedicated to delivering high-quality construction drawings across various projects. Each team member has developed strengths in different areas of technical design, including architectural detailing, structural coordination, M&E design, planning drawings, and building regulations packages. Rather than functioning as a traditional studio, CADGUYS assembles the right expertise tailored to the specific needs of each project. Some team members specialize in new build developments, others focus on structural detailing or building regulations, while others excel in planning submissions and the early design stages. This flexible approach allows CADGUYS to combine the most appropriate technical skillsets for each project, ensuring that the construction drawings produced are both accurate and practical for implementation.
