HOW WE GOT HERE
CADGUYS began around 2018, initially providing technical drawing services for residential architectural projects. As the workload grew, the business gradually developed into a flexible network of technicians and collaborators working remotely across a variety of projects.
In the early years much of the work focused on direct relationships with homeowners, preparing planning drawings and assisting with residential design projects. At the same time, CADGUYS began forming relationships with architectural designers and practices who required additional technical drawing support during busy periods.
Over time this naturally developed into a dual business model.
Today CADGUYS works both directly with private clients and in collaboration with architectural designers, contractors and developers who require technical drawing support. This approach differs from a traditional architectural practice, where work is typically limited to projects within a local area.
Because many of the projects we assist with have already passed through the planning stage, much of the site and contextual information has already been established. This allows CADGUYS to focus on what we do best — developing the technical design of a project and producing detailed construction drawings.
Working in this way allows us to support professionals across the UK, providing technical drawing services remotely while maintaining close collaboration with the practices or contractors managing the project and client relationships.
In many cases we become involved at the point where a project needs to move from an approved design to a fully coordinated construction package, helping translate planning drawings into clear information that can be priced, approved and built on site.
This collaborative model has allowed CADGUYS to grow beyond a traditional local practice and become a technical drawing partner for professionals and clients working across a wide range of residential projects throughout the UK.

Working Directly with Homeowners
We assist private clients with residential projects including new builds, extensions, loft conversions and garage conversions. This typically involves preparing planning drawings, developing construction packages and guiding projects through the early design stages.
Technical Drawing Support for Architects
Many architectural designers and practices approach CADGUYS when additional technical capacity is required. We develop detailed construction drawings based on approved planning designs, allowing practices to maintain control of the client relationship while we focus on the technical delivery of the project.
Supporting Builders & Contractors
Contractors often require clear technical drawings to price and build projects with confidence. CADGUYS provides construction packages, technical details and drawing support to help contractors move projects forward efficiently.
Working with Developers
For developers and property investors, CADGUYS can assist with both early planning strategy and the technical development of approved schemes, producing coordinated construction drawing packages for single dwellings or larger residential projects.
Who Are CADGUYS?
CADGUYS was founded by Sonny Medcalf, whose background began in architectural training following the traditional RIBA pathway. Through working across a range of residential and technical projects, Sonny gradually built relationships with a number of experienced CAD technicians and specialists, each bringing their own area of expertise.
Today CADGUYS operates as a collaborative network of technical specialists, working together to deliver high-quality drawing packages across a wide variety of projects. Each member of the team has developed strengths in different areas of technical design, including architectural detailing, structural coordination, M&E design, planning drawings and building regulations packages.
Rather than operating as a traditional studio, CADGUYS brings together the right expertise depending on the needs of the project. Some team members specialise in new build developments, others focus on structural detailing or building regulations, while others are particularly experienced in planning submissions and early design stages.
This flexible approach allows CADGUYS to assemble the most appropriate technical skillset for each project, ensuring that the drawings produced are both accurate and practical for construction.

CADGUYS is led by founder Sonny Medcalf, who oversees the organisation and delivery of projects across the studio. Sonny works closely with clients, architects, and contractors to coordinate the design process and ensure each project is developed efficiently and accurately.
Behind the studio sits a dedicated network of experienced technicians and design specialists who support the production of drawings and technical packages, allowing CADGUYS to deliver projects across the UK.
